Macros and Addons
Macros and addons are an integral part of a raider's arsenal as they can make it easier to perform a variety of tasks, improving your overall game experience. On this page, we present macros and addons that can be useful to a Survival Hunter in World of Warcraft WoD 6.2.2.
1. Macros↑top
1.1. Generic Macros for Hunters
1.1.1. Deterrence Cancelaura Macro
- /cancelaura Deterrence
This macro allows you to cancel your Deterrence, which is useful because while Deterrence is active, you cannot perform any attacks. With this macro, you can use Deterrence to avoid a specific boss ability and then quickly resume DPS.
We advise using the above macro separately from your normal Deterrence keybind, even though having a single macro for both is common. The reason we advise against using the two together is that it is very easy to accidentally cancel Deterrence, especially if you are spamming your keybind.
1.1.2. Misdirection Mouseover/Focus Macro
- #showtooltip Misdirection
- /cast [@mouseover,help,nodead][@focus,help,nodead][]Misdirection
This macro will cast Misdirection on the target you are currently mousing over, provided that they are friendly and not dead. Otherwise, it will cast Misdirection on your focus target, if they are friendly and not dead. If this is not a valid choice either, it will cast Misdirection on your current target.
1.1.3. Startattack Macros
Neither Glaive Toss nor Dire Beast cause your character to start attacking the target when cast, so you should use the following macros to force this to happen.
- #showtooltip Glaive Toss
- /startattack
- /cast Glaive Toss
- #showtooltip Dire Beast
- /startattack
- /cast Dire Beast
1.1.4. Petattack Macros
It is a good idea to include a command to force your pet to switch to your current important target. This is particularly relevant with Dire Beast and Stampede, since you generally cast these abilities on targets you intend to attack for at least a moderate amount of time (justifying the time it takes your pet to run to the target).
- #showtooltip Dire Beast
- /petattack
- /cast Dire Beast
- #showtooltip Stampede
- /petattack
- /cast Stampede
1.1.5. Master's Call Macro
- #showtooltip Master's Call
- /cast [@player] Master's Call
This macro causes Master's Call to be cast on you, allowing you to position yourself close to the adds that you want to switch to. Then, when you use the macro, the pet will jump to you, and it will thus be in melee range of the adds you want it to switch to.
1.2. Specific Macros for Survival Hunters
Currently, we feel that there is no need for additional macros to play a Survival Hunter to its full potential.
2. Addons↑top
2.1. Generic Addons for Hunters
2.1.1. ElvUI
Here, at Icy Veins, we use ElvUI for all our characters. This addon is a complete replacement of the default User Interface. It comes with almost everything you need to perform properly: action bars, cooldown timers, proc display, etc.
We strongly recommend that you get this addon.
2.1.2. Boss Mods: Deadly Boss Mods or Bigwigs
Boss mods are addons that warn you about boss abilities and give you live advice on how to handle some mechanics. We strongly recommend you to get one such addon. At Icy Veins, we mostly use Deadly Boss Mods, the most popular boss mod. A good alternative is Big Wigs.
2.1.3. GTFO
GTFO is a lightweight addon that notifies you when you are standing in harmful effects or when you are making other such mistakes. It is very useful, even if your boss mod is already alerting you of such things.
2.1.4. Parrot or Mik's Scrolling Battle Text
Parrot and Mik's Scrolling Battle Text are highly customisable addons for displaying floating battle text while in combat (incoming heals, damage of your spells, etc.). They both work very well by default.
2.1.5. Weak Auras
WeakAuras is an extremely useful addon that allows you to have visual effects on your screen, helping you track your buffs, debuffs and cooldowns. It is highly customisable and it can make it much, much easier to keep track of your procs and play your spec more proficiently. It can also be used for a variety of other functions.
2.1.6. Recount / Skada
Recount is a well known addon that most people use for displaying current DPS or HPS (Healing Per Second). We advise you to also use it for checking what you take damage from and if the share of damage/healing you do with each of your abilities is similar to that of other players of your class.
A lightweight alternative to Recount is Skada Damage Meter.
2.1.7. Omen Threat Meter
Omen Threat Meter is the most popular addon for displaying the current threat levels on your target. We recommend you to use it to avoid taking aggro when the tank is still building up threat on an enemy.
2.1.8. JSHB 4
JSHB 4 (formerly known as JS' Hunter Bar) is a highly customisable addon that greatly assists your gameplay as a hunter. It provides you with a very easy to see focus bar as well as cooldown timers for all of your useful hunter abilities. Moreover, it provides various other miscellaneous features.
2.1.9. Stay Focused! Hunter Helper
Stay Focused! Hunter Helper is a simple addon that displays a bar representing the amount of Focus you currently have. It is very crucial that you know how much Focus you have at all times, and having an addon which takes very little space to show you this means that your visibility is not hindered.
This addon is an alternative to JS' Hunter Bar.
2.1.10. Pawn
Pawn is an add-on that calculates the value of items based on the stat weights you input for your character. We recommend this Pawn string, maintained by Azortharion, which has all the up to date stat weights needed.
